Do I need to be a member of a club to participate? No.

Do I need to know any members of a golf club? No.

What equipment do I need to get started and do I need to have golf shoes/clothes? Runners would be sufficient for the Driving Range however if you are going out on the golf course golf shoes would be preferable from a safety aspect. Warm clothes and a hat for the Driving Range.

Do I need to have clubs ? No (these will be provided at the lessons).

What will it cost? Sessions cost approx €10.00 per hour (4 sessions in total €40.00).

How long are the lessons? 1 hour approx.

Are the lessons indoors or outdoors? Mostly outdoor, depending on the facilities at the club.

Where are the programs run? For further information, click on "Golf Coaching Venues".

How do I get involved in a program? Locate your nearest venue from the list under "Golf Coaching Venues" and ring or email the contact listed for that venue.

Are numbers limited? No.

How many participants are in a group? 10 on average.

Can golfers who are already members of a club participate?  Inactive club members may participate.

How can I join a club? Click www.ilgu.ie and look at Membership Vacancies on the home page.

Is golf membership expensive? This depends on the individual club. Some clubs are open to membership while others operate a waiting list. Some clubs allow you to spread the cost over a number of years.

Are there many rules involved and if so do I need to know them? There are Rules of Golf but it is not necessary to know them before taking up the game. WIS Sessions will include etiquette and basic rules will be explained at the Scramble which concludes the sessions.

If I decide to take up the game is there someone who can advise me on the equipment to purchase? Yes. Most Golf Clubs have a PGA Professional who will advise you on the clubs most suited to you.

How do I get a handicap? When you become a member of a club affiliated to the ILGU, the Ladies Committee will inform you of all the details when you join. You will need to play 3 rounds at your club and return the scores to the Handicap Committee who will allocate you a handicap.
